Parenting Newcomer Youth

Saturday, March 25, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Join our SWIS team online, using Zoom, or in person at ISGW for this session.

Settlement and migration can be stressful for youth (13-19). Adjusting to a new country can present a list of challenges, which if unaddressed, can lead to negative outcomes. These challenges include:

  • Intergenerational disconnect
  • Financial instability
  • Contact with the criminal justice system
  • Lack of belonging

Our guest speaker: Nabeel Rahman, M.A., R.S.W. Registered Social Worker, Positive Thought Counselling Services

This workshop is developed to assist parents and caregivers in helping youth as they transition from adolescence to
adulthood. The workshop will provide helpful strategies to:

  • Understand the needs of your teenager
  • Empathize with their experiences
  • Validate your own vulnerability

View PDF flyer.

Language interpretation is available, based on need. Please register by Tuesday, March 21 and be sure
to complete the interpretation section of the registration form.
